A Brazilian forestry company and eucalyptus pulp maker has mounted the new SMART Clean system in one of its recovery boilers. The system has extended the service time of the boiler and vigorously reduced the steam consumption for soot blowing as well.

In order to maintain the productivity while shutting down the existing boilers, the pulp mill requires a solution to reduce the steam consumption of the recovery boiler. To this end, CBPG mounted a new SMART Clean system in one of the recovery boilers of the pulp mill in the spring of 2017. As a solution to boiler cleaning and optimization based on the intelligent soot blower, the SMART Clean system aims to reduce the steam consumption to the minimum while keeping the boiler clean and thus extend the service time and efficiency of the boiler. Moreover, it is able to examine the ash accumulation and position in real time and control the intensity of soot blowing. In this way, the SMART Clean technology can satisfy the requirement on the operation and reduce the overall cost of energy consumption at the same time.

Since the SMART Clean system was applied, the steam consumption has been lowered from 65 tons/hour to 50 tons/hour, so the mill is able to shut down their existing boilers while maintaining the productivity. Moreover, the pulp mill no longer needs to perform "cooling down for soot blowing" every month, which extends the service time of the boiler and further saves the operation cost.
